Frigidaire, of Cleveland, Ohio just issued a recall for about 35,000 Crosley®, Frigidaire®, Kelvinator®, Kenmore®, Wascomat®, and White-Westinghouse® clothes washers the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced. The recall was initiated because an internal defect in the washer’s drain pump can cause heat to build up, posing a fire hazard to the consumer. To date, no incidents or injuries have been reported.
The Frigidaire recall involves the Crosley®, Frigidaire®, Kelvinator®, Kenmore®, Wascomat®, and White-Westinghouse® in top load washers, 3.1 cubic foot front load washers, and laundry centers in the following model and serial numbers. Note: Not all serial numbers within these ranges are affected:
Top Load Washer:
These washers open the product’s lid; the model and serial number are located inside the product’s lid, on the top, right hand corner and include the Crosley, Frigidaire, Kelvinator, and White-Westinghouse Top Load Washers with serial numbers XC90306228 to XC91606302 and in model numbers: CTW100FW, FTW3011KW, FTW3014KW, FWS1233FS, FWS933FS, GLWS1439FC, GLWS1439FS, GLWS1749FS, KWS1349DS, MWS939AS, SWS1233HQ, SWS1233HS, SWS1339HS, SWS1649HS, SWS833HS, SWX703HQ, SWX703HS, WWS833FS, and WWTW3000KW.
Front Load Washer:
These washers open the door; the model and serial number are located with other information at the top, center and include the Crosley, Frigidaire, Wascomat, and White-Westinghouse Front Load Washers with serial numbers XC90501765 to XC91607678 and in model numbers: CFW2000FW, FCCW3000FS, FTF1240FS, FTF530FS, GLTF1570FS, WE17M, WE17N, and WTF330HS.
Laundry Center:
These appliances open the door to the dryer; the model and serial number are located on the outer edge of the door nearest the door’s handle and include Crosley, Frigidaire, Kenmore, and White-Westinghouse Laundry Centers with serial numbers XE85104013 to XE91603486 and in model numbers: 97812, 97912, 97962, C97812, C97912, C97962, CLCE500FW, CLCE900FW, FEX831FS, FGX831FS, FLGB8200FS, GCET1031FS, GLEH1642FS, GLET1031FS, GLET1142FS, GLGH1642FS, GLGT1031FS, GLGT1142FS, MEX731CFS, SWSG1031HS, and SWXG831HS.
The recalled Frigidaire washers were manufactured in the United States and sold by Sears and other retailers nationwide from February 2009 through May 2009 for between $300 and $1100.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately unplug and stop using the machine. Consumers should contact Frigidaire or Sears (if the unit was purchased there) to schedule a free repair.
