About 130 Children’s Toys, Purses, and Pen Cases have been recalled by importer Daiso California LLC, of Burlingame, California due to violation of lead paint and phthalate limits, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced.
The defective Daiso Children’s Toys, Purses, and Pen Cases have been recalled because the surface paint on the balancing toys and zippers of the purses and pen cases contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint ban. The inflatable baseball bat toys contain excessive levels of DEHP, violating the federal phthalate standard. To date, no incidents or injuries have been reported; however in the case of lead and phthalate exposure, reactions may take some time to appear. голова болит секс
Exposure to lead in children can cause brain and nervous system damage, behavioral and learning problems, slowed growth, hearing problems, headaches, mental and physical retardation, and behavioral and other health problems. Lead is also known to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Once poisoned by lead, no organ system is immune. Of particular concern is the developing brain because negative influences can have long-lasting effects and can continue well into puberty and beyond.
Phthalates are chemicals that enable flexibility in plastics and vinyls and which are known in laboratory testing to cause reproductive disturbances such as decreased sperm count, infertility, and reproductive tract malformations. голова болит секс
This recall involves balancing toys in the shape of dragonflies; children’s purses in the shape of the head of a lion, frog or bear; children’s purses with rainbow stripes; children’s pen cases shaped like a piece of candy with stitching “cool ice cream,” “sweet cake,” or “fad hamburger” on the front; and inflatable baseball bats with “Home Run” printed on the side. Daiso is printed on the product’s packaging.
The toys, which were made in China and Vietnam and retailed for between $1 and $4, were sold at Daiso stores in California from March 2008 through May 2009.
We have long been writing about the myriad problems associated with imports entering the United States from China. In recent years, imports from China have been at the center of safety worries in the United States and other countries with Chinese-made products impacting everything from medications, to toys, to consumer products, to pet food, to tooth paste.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled products away from children and contact Daiso for a free replacement product or a full refund.
