Raynor Marketing has recalled About 150,000 Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chairs and Multifunction Mesh Chairs with Headrests due to fall hazard, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) just announced. Raynor Marketing Limited is located in West Hempstead, New York.
The bolts attaching the seatback on the recalled Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chair and Multifunction Mesh Chair with Headrest can loosen and detach, posing a fall and injury hazard to consumers. To date, Raynor has received reports of 33 seatback detachments and 14 injuries involving bumps and bruises.
This recall involves the Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chair SKU # 510830 and the Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mesh Chair with Headrest SKU # 690690. The Realspace PRO™ Mesh Guest Chair is not involved in this recall. The recalled office chairs were sold exclusively at Office Depot stores nationwide and on the Web at www.OfficeDepot.com from May 2006 through August 2009. The Quantum Realspace PRO™ 9000 Series Mid-Back Multifunction Mesh Chair sold for about $300 and the Multifunction Mesh Chair with Headrest sold for about $350.
The recalled Quantum chairs were manufactured in China by Comfort Office Furniture, LTD also known as Evergood Co. Ltd.
Defective imports from China have been making headlines in recent years; this recall of defective office equipment is just one of many such issues. Also making news is the ongoing Chinese drywall disaster involving imports from that country. And, in 2008, nearly 80 percent of all product recalls in the United States involved imports from China. Products such as dog food, baby formula, toys with lead paint, and even pharmaceuticals like heparin have been found to have been made with toxic materials and other counterfeit ingredients that have long been putting United States consumers at significant risk.
