A recall of children’s metal pendants has been expanded by Team Work Trading, of Los Angeles, Calif. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalled metal pendants contain excessive amounts of lead.
The expanded recall includes eleven types of metal pendants sold with silver-colored chains. The pendants feature symbols from the following animations/cartoons: “Bleach,” “Death Note,” “Naruto” and “One Piece.” The pendants were sold in the Teamwork Trading Store in Los Angeles, Calif. and other toys stores and gift shops nationwide from November 2008 through March 2009 for between $3 and $4. Approximately 1,500 pendants are involved in the expanded recall.
According to the CPSC, an additional 1,500 pendants were recalled by Team Work Trading in September.
Exposure to lead in children can cause brain and nervous system damage, behavioral and learning problems, slowed growth, hearing problems, headaches, mental and physical retardation, and behavioral and other health problems. Lead is also known to cause cancer and reproductive harm. Once poisoned by lead, no organ system is immune. Of particular concern is the developing brain because negative influences can have long-lasting effects and can continue well into puberty and beyond.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately take the recalled pendants away from children and contact Team Work Trading to receive a full refund or replacement product.
