The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is reporting a number of recalls, including two for defective cribs.  Both cribs were recalled by the CPSC for fall hazards and failure to meet the federal safety crib standard.

Approximately 500 Baby Appleseed Davenport Cribs were recalled because the cribs’ two-mattress support system’s secondary support—used for the lowest position—does not meet the 26-inch minimum height in its lowest position, which allows children to crawl over the railing.  Model numbers 273-xxxx-xxxx with manufacture dates on or before August 2007 printed on a label located on the right side of the lower inner panel of the crib were recalled.  The cribs were made in Vietnam and sold at specialty juvenile product stores nationwide December 2006-September 2007 for $600-$800.  Consumers should stop using the recalled cribs in the wooden mattress support’s third lowest position and contact Baby Appleseed for a repair kit.  Consumers who are currently using the crib with the metal mattress support in the top or middle positions can continue to do so in those positions while awaiting a repair kit.
About 1,300 Mother Hubbard’s Cupboards, manufactured in Canada by Mother Hubbard’s Cupboards, of Toronto, Canada and include the following wooden full-size cribs and model numbers:  “Enchantment” (#210), “Hush a Bye” (#215), “Once Upon A Time” (#320), and “Rock A Bye” (#1900-350) with date codes 0306-0308. “Mother Hubbard’s Cupboards,” the model number, and date code are printed on a label on the bottom inside of the right side.  Cribs were sold at juvenile product stores March 2006-March 2008 for $500-$650.
About 80,000–40,000 pairs—of KéO Bicycle Pedals were recalled by Look Cycle as the pedal’s interior steel axle can break.  Look Cycle received 14 reports of incidents, including seven injuries:  Scrapes, cuts, contusions, elbow pain, and a knee injury.  The recalled pedals were made in France and sold separately from bicycles and include models KéO Classic, Sprint, HM, and Carbon. The model name appears in white on the pedal’s side and includes date codes January 2004-December 2005 on a dial stamped onto the pedal; the code for the HM is on the bottom of the pedal, with the letters A-L corresponding to the month, and 4 and 5 indicating 2004 or 2005.  Pedals were sold at specialty bicycle retailers nationwide January 2004-July 2007 for $100-$500.
About 58,000 Chicago Electric Halogen Work Lights, distributed by Harbor Freight Tools, of Camarillo, California were recalled.  The lights can overheat and melt and pose a risk of fire and electrical shock; there been three such reports.  Recalled lights are 500 watts with model number 30858; the lamp measures 7 x 5 ½ and is mounted on a yellow frame. “UL Listed E163392” and “Work Light 8F95” is printed on a sticker on the back; the model number is printed on the packaging.  The lights, which were made in China, were sold at Harbor Freight

Tools stores nationwide, Harbor Freight Tools’ catalogs, and at www.harborfreight.com from February 2006-March 2008 for about $10.
Approximately 14,000 DEWALT DC608 18 Volt Cordless 2” 18 Gauge Straight Brad Nailers manufactured by DEWALT Industrial Tool Company of Towson, Maryland and made in Mexico, were recalled because the nailer can operate when the lock-off (safety) is in the locked position and the nailer can also operate when the trigger is not pulled and the contact trip is depressed.  Unexpected nail ejection poses a serious injury hazard to consumers and  DeWALT received two such reports.  Date codes 200728-200821 and “DC608” on the right side of the magazine are recalled. The date code is on the underside of the handle, once the battery pack is removed; units stamped with an “M” following the date code are not included.  Nailers were sold at wholesale distributors and retailers October 2007-May 2008 for about $280.
