The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in collaboration with the firms named below, announced the two following recalls.
In the first, JCPenney is recalling about 24,000 of its Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants due to a choking hazard. The Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants were made in Bangladesh and imported by JCPenney Company, of Plano, Texas. Only pants made in Bangladesh are involved in the recall; pants made in China are not affected; the country of origin can be found on a label sewn into the waistband. While no injuries or incidents have been reported, the Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants contain a metal snap at the waist that can detach posing a choking hazard to infants.
The recalled Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants are Arizona® brand newborn and infant girl’s and boy’s denim pants, sold in sizes 0-3 months, 3-6 months, and 6-9 months. The Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants retailed for about $15 and were sold exclusively at JCPenney stores nationwide and on the Internet at www.jcp.com from July 2008 through October 2008. The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Arizona® Newborn and Infant Denim Pants and return them to any JCPenney store for a full refund. Pants purchased through the firm’s Website may be returned to the Catalog Desk at any JCPenney store. JCPenney can also be reached toll-free at (888) 333-6063 anytime or at its Website.
In the second release, the CPSC announced that DuPont is recalling about 20,000 of its Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner Bottles due to a leaking cap, which poses a risk for severe skin irritation. The DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner Bottles were manufactured by DuPont, of Wilmington, Delaware and were made in the United States. Pressure can build up in a full or nearly full bottle of the DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner Bottles when stored in elevated temperatures over an extended period of time. This can cause the cleaner to leak from underneath the cap. If the DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner comes into contact with skin, it can cause severe skin irritation. Lowes has received two reports of leaking bottles at two different Lowe’s stores, also one consumer reported temporary skin irritation and another, skin peeling. The DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner is used to clean ceramic and porcelain tile and grout and was sold in silver-colored one-quart plastic bottles with “DuPont” and “Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner” printed on the front of the bottle and UPC code 6-69009-71003-9 printed on the back label. The DuPont Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner Bottles were sold at Lowe’s stores from March 2008 through October 2008 and retailed for about $7.
The CPSC is alerting consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Heavy Duty Acidic Cleaner bottles if there are signs of leakage and that even if there are no signs of leakage, consumers should wear gloves when handling the recalled bottles and contact DuPont to receive a free replacement bottle cap. Consumers should not return the product to Lowe’s.
