Three defective children’s products have been recalled for violating U.S. lead standards. According to the Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), the recalls include Jesus Fish Beads sold by Discount School Supply; High School Musical Manicure Kits made by Fantas-Eyes, Inc.,; and Lip Gloss Key Chains made by Markwins Beauty Products
According to the CPSC, the Jesus Fish Beads were sold in packages of 100 in five assorted colors (red, black, purple, light blue and green) with the word “Jesus” printed on each. The beads measure about 2 inches in length each. The recalled beads were sold at Discount School Supply’s Web site from August 2006 through December 2008 for about $5. Surface paint on the green fish can contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard. The recall involves about 500 beads.
The House School Musical Manicure Kit recall involves about 15,000 kits sold by LTD Commodities and ABC distributing catalogs and Web Sites, as well as through www.lakeside.com from September 2008 to November 2008. They sold for about for about $11, the CPSC said.
This recall involves the pouch that contains the “High School Musical” manicure kit. The 7-1/2 inch by 4-3/4 inch plastic see-through pouch has a pink zipper with “High School Musical” printed in yellow gold with glitter and “Sharpay” printed in dark red on one side. The CPSC said the glitter on the pouch used with the manicure kit contains excess levels of lead.
Finally, Merkwins is recalling about 75,000 Lip Gloss Key Chains sold at Rite Aid, Kmart, Fred Meyer and Wal-Mart Stores nationwide during October 2008 for about $1. This recall involves lip gloss with a metal clasp keychain attached to the cap by a chain. Markings on the lip gloss container read, “Lip Gloss,” “Brillant á lèvres,” “Fantasy Makers” and “from the creators of Wet n Wild.”
The CPSC said that all of these products should be taken away from children immediately. The manufacturers of these products may be contacted for refund or replacement.
