The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced two more recalls, one for Halogen Clamp Lamps due to fire and burn hazard and the other for Marzocchi Bicycle Forks due to a crash hazard and a risk of injury during repair.
About 2,000 Halogen Clamp Lamps, which were manufactured by Catalina Lighting Inc., of Miami, Florida, were made in China, and were sold exclusively at Staples retail stores have been recalled because the UV glass lens on the lamp can crack, exposing the Halogen bulb, and posing a fire and burn hazard. Catalina Lighting has received 65 reports of broken lenses.
The Catalina Lighting Halogen Clamp Lights, which are also known as Architect’s Lamps, have a 150-watt Halogen bulb, an articulating arm, and a clamp desk lamp that adjusts up, down, and swivels. Catalina Lighting Halogen Clamp Lamps with model number 13456-US and lot numbers C06081581V185, C06081582V185, and C06081584V185 are included in the recall. The lamps were sold at Staples retail stores nationwide from July 2008 through October 2008 for about $50.
The CPSC is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Catalina Lighting Halogen Clamp Lamps and contact Catalina Lighting to receive a free replacement lens. The CPSC also announced that Marzocchi recalled about 70 Bicycle Forks due to a crash hazard and a risk of injury during repair. The recalled Marzocchi Bicycle Forks were manufactured by Tenneco-Marzocchi s.r.l., of Bologna, Italy and were made in Taiwan. The Marzocchi Bicycle Forks were recalled because the suspension system on the bicycle equipped with the recalled forks could become completely compressed and could fail to return to its original position after a forceful landing. This defect can cause riders to lose control of the bicycle and crash. The forks can expand forcefully if repair is attempted by the consumer, which also poses a risk of serious injury. Marzocchi has received eight reports of damaged forks outside of the United States, including a report of an injury from a fall.
The recalled Marzocchi Bicycle Forks were sold for installation on mountain bikes. The recall involves certain 2008 model year 888RC3 and 888RC3WC suspensions with date codes beginning with T07D07, T07D08, and T07D09. The recalled Marzocchi Bicycle Forks are white or black with red and black artwork on the legs and were sold at a variety of bicycle parts distributors and retailers nationwide from July 2007 through September 2007 for between $1,000 and $1,700.
The CPSC is advising consumers to stop using the recalled Marzocchi Bicycle Forks immediately, and return them to the dealer where purchased for a free repair. Consumers should not attempt to repair the forks.
