The Consumer Product Safety Commission and Jordache Ltd., of New York, New York, have announced the voluntary recall of some 30,000 “U.S. Polo Association” Youth Hooded Sweatshirts with Drawstring because the garments have a drawstring through the hood that poses a strangulation hazard to children.

Consumers should stop using recalled products immediately.

The sweatshirts were manufactured in China, and sold at JC Penney stores nationwide from September 2005 through December 2005 for about $40.

To date, no injuries or incidents have been reported.

The recalled youth hooded fleece garments have drawstrings. They were sold in a variety of colors and have “U.S. Polo Assn.” written on them. A sewn-in tag also reads, “U.S. Polo Assn”. The style number for these garments is 12-5169.

Consumers should remove or cut the drawstrings to eliminate the hazard, or return the garment to the store where purchased for a refund.

For additional information, consumers can contact Jordache Ltd. toll-free at (888) 295-3267 , or visit JC Penny’s Web site at http://www.jcpenny.com.
