Plainview Milk Products Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

Plainview Milk Products Cooperative, Plainview, Minnesota, is voluntarily recalling instant nonfat dried milk, whey protein, fruit stabilizers, and gums (thickening agents) that it has manufactured over the past two years, because the products might be contaminated with Salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced.
The company sells these products to other industry customers, including distributors and manufacturers, who may have incorporated them into their own products. None of Plainview’s recalled products were sold directly to the public. Plainview has stopped production of these products and has notified its customers of the recall. Currently, the Plainview recall is limited to industry customers who received suspect product(s). (more…)

Another Beef Recall over E. coli Contamination Concerns

JBS Swift Beef Company, of Greeley, Colorado, is recalling approximately 41,280 pounds of beef products that may be contaminated with the E. coli O157:H7 pathogen, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) announced. The recall is a Class I, which means this a health hazard situation in which there is a reasonable probability that use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
The beef products—listed below—were produced on April 21 and 22, 2009, and shipped to distributors and retail establishments in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oregon, South Carolina, Tennessee, Utah, and Wisconsin. The problem was discovered through FSIS microbiological sampling and an investigation into the distribution of other products. (more…)

70 E. Coli Reports linked to Recalled Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough

Nestle Toll House cookie dough has now been associated with 70 cases of E. coli O157:H7 in 30 states. The E. coli outbreak has prompted Nestle to close a plant in Virginia where the cookie dough was made, and Food & Drug Administration (FDA) inspectors are currently on the scene.
Last Friday, the FDA warned consumers not to eat any varieties of Prepackaged Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough following reports of people infected with E. coli O157:HY in dozens of states. At the time, the agency said the E. coli illnesses might be related to consumption of raw cookie dough. (more…)

E. coli Illnesses May Be Linked to Nestle Toll House Cookie Dough, FDA Warns

Prepackaged Nestle Toll House refrigerated cookie dough may be contaminated with E. coli O157:H7, prompting the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) to warn consumers not to eat any varieties of the product.
E. coli O157:H7 causes abdominal cramping, vomiting and a diarrheal illness, often with bloody stools. Most healthy adults can recover completely within a week. Young children and the elderly are at highest risk for developing Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome (HUS), which can lead to serious kidney damage and even death. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), E. coli 0157:H7 is responsible for sickening 73,000 people every year, and of those, 60 will die from the disease. (more…)

Pistachios Named in Latest Salmonella Scare

Consumers nationwide are being warned to avoid pistachios and pistachio-containing products. According to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA) pistachios made by the nation’s second largest producer – Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc – may be tainted with salmonella. The California-based company is recalling 1 million pounds of the nuts.
According to the FDA, this pistachio recall is in no way related to the Peanut Corp. of America (PCA) salmonella outbreak that we have been following for the past several months. No illnesses have yet been linked to salmonella-tainted pistachios, but federal regulators are investigating several suspected cases. (more…)

Crown Farms Brand “Gulsha” Fish Recalled Over Possible Salmonella

Asia Cash and Carry Inc. of Maspeth, New York is recalling 17 cases of CROWN FARMS brand “GULSHA” Frozen Fish, a Bangladeshi Freshwater Fish, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced. The recall was implemented because the CROWN FARMS brand “GULSHA” Frozen Fish was found to have the potential to be contaminated with the dangerous, sometimes deadly, food borne pathogen salmonella.
The CROWN FARMS brand “GULSHA” Bangladeshi Freshwater Fish was distributed to retail stores in New York, New Jersey, Illinois, Michigan, and Virginia; was imported from Bangladesh; and was distributed in cases containing vacuum-packed 500-gram packages bearing a production date of AUG 2008, an expiration date of JULY 2010, and a UPC of 5 060065 430704. Each case contains 16 500-gram packages of the recalled CROWN FARMS brand “GULSHA” Frozen Bangladeshi Freshwater Fish. The FDA said that, to date, no illnesses have been reported. (more…)

USDA Recalls Chicken Bouillon Ineligible for Import

The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has announced a recall of about 89,531 pounds of Wei-Chuan Granulated Chicken Bouillon products. The Wei-Chuan Granulated Chicken Bouillon has been recalled because of its ineligibility for import into the United States, said the USDA.
The recall is a Class II recall, in which a health hazard situation exists with a remote probability of adverse health consequences from the use of the product, in this case Wei-Chuan Granulated Chicken Bouillon USA, Inc., products from Wei-Chuan USA located in Bell Gardens, California. (more…)

Chinese Drywall Being Tested By Florida Health Department

The Florida Health Department has begun running tests on the defective Chinese drywall that has ruined many new homes in the state. According to a report on News-Press.com, results from the Florida Health Department drywall tests could be available sometime next month.
Over the past several months, owners of newer homes in South Florida have been complaining of drywall that smells like rotten eggs. In several cases, they have had to leave their home because the smell was so bad. In addition to the putrid smell, many South Florida homeowners have reported problems with air conditioning and other systems that are likely related to the defective Chinese drywall. Some spent hundreds – even thousands of dollars – to have air conditioning, pipes and wiring repaired. (more…)

Peanut Butter Salmonella Recall List Still Expanding

Federal health officials now say that 31 million pounds of peanut butter and peanut paste are being recalled because of a nationwide salmonella outbreak. The number of food products containing these ingredients now stands at 165. Not surprising, as the company behind the tainted peanut butter, Peanut Corporation of America (PCA), supplies ingredients to 85 other food firms.

Stuffed Chicken Recalled for Foreign Objects
