Car Accident in Montauk Injures Martha Rogers, Wife of Dick Cavett

Emmy award-winning talk show host Dick Cavett and his wife Martha Rogers were involved in a car accident in Montauk. The couple were passengers in a 2012 Toyota Highlander eastbound on Route 27 near Beech Street when the accident occurred, said East Hampton Town Police Chief Michael D. Sarlo. The Toyota, driven by a 53-year-old from Great Neck, was struck by a 2000 Ford pickup that pulled onto the eastbound shoulder and attempted to make a U-turn.

According to Newsday, the pickup truck driver was a 19-year-old male from Manhattan. The force of the collision caused the Toyota to leave the roadway and hit a tree on the south shoulder. Rogers sustained cuts and scrapes “to her face and head” said Sarlo. The accident did not cause any other injuries and no summonses have been issued.

Rogers, 64, was treated at Southampton Hospital. Marsha Kenny, the hospital’s public affairs and marketing director, said she was released. Kenny also stated that Cavett, 79, was listed as being treated and released. She told Newsday “that may have just been because they looked at him because he had been in an accident,”

The couple reside in Montauk, according to Newsday. “The Dick Cavett Show” first aired in 1968 and was broadcasted on multiple networks over 35 years. Rogers and Cavett wed in 2010.

Rogers is a business writer who has been published in The Harvard Business Review and other academic and trade journals. She is also the founding partner of Peppers & Rogers Group, a management consulting firm based in Stamford, Connecticut.
