FLORIDA JURY AWARDS $8 MILLION TO HUSBAND OF WOMAN WHO DIED AS A RESULT OF UNNECESSARY CHEMOTHERAPY

Janet Pandrea had a benign tumor in one lung that could have been easily removed by surgery. Unfortunately, Janet Pandrea is dead. She died as a result of the side effects of chemotherapy she was given to treat cancer she never had.

On Friday, a jury in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, awarded Charles Pandrea $8 million for his wifeís pain and suffering and wrongful death. The defendants, Coral Springs Medical Center, University Hospital in Tamarac, and two doctors were found liable and, pending appeals, will each be responsible for paying a portion of the award.

Following her death, a private autopsy showed Mrs. Pandrea never had cancer. The medical evidence offered at trial convinced the jury that her death was the ultimate result of side effects related to the unnecessary chemotherapy she was given.

After an investigation, the North Broward Hospital District, which governs the hospital in question, issued a statement that an employee "acknowledged his responsibility."
