New Braunfels Smokehouse of New Braunfels, Texas, is recalling approximately 2,609 pounds of fully cooked, ready-to-eat smoked turkey breast products that may be contaminated with <"http://www.yourlawyer.com/topics/overview/listeria">Listeria monocytogenes (Lm), the U.S. Department of Agricultureâ€™s (USDA) Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) just announced.
This recall has been deemed a Class I, which means that this is health hazard situation where there is a reasonable probability that the use of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.
The products subject to recall include:
â€¢ 1-pound packages of â€œNew Braunfels Smokehouse Sliced Smoked Turkeyâ€ with package code â€œ2210â€ on the label;
â€¢ 4-to-6-pound packages of â€œNew Braunfels Honey-Glazed Spiral Sliced Smokehouse Hickory Smoked Boneless Breast of Turkeyâ€ with package code â€œ2180â€ on the label;
â€¢ 4-to-6-pound whole breast packages of â€œStegall Boneless Hickory Smoked Turkey Breastâ€ with package code â€œ2210â€ on the label;
â€¢ 4-to-6=pound whole breast packages of â€œStegall Spiral Sliced Hickory Smoked Turkey Breastâ€ with package codes â€œ2180â€ or â€œ2210â€ on the label.
Each package bears the USDA mark of inspection and the number â€œP-975â€ inside the mark of inspection. The fully cooked, ready-to-eat smoked turkey breast products were produced on August 4, 2010, and distributed nationwide, including via catalog and Internet sales. When available, the retail distribution list(s) will be posted on FSIS’ website at www.fsis.usda.gov/FSIS_Recalls/ Open_Federal_Cases/index.asp
The problem was discovered through microbiological sampling by FSIS. FSIS routinely conducts recall effectiveness checks to verify recalling firms notify their customers of the recall and that steps are taken to make certain that the product is no longer available to consumers.
Consumption of food contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an uncommon but potentially fatal disease.
