Prestigio Office Chairs Recalled for Fall Hazard

Prestigio office chairs are being recalled for fall hazard, according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The chairs’ seat plate can break, which is what poses a fall and injury hazard to consumers. To date, Office Depot, the chairs’ importer, has received 78 reports of incidents involving seat plates breaking. One report of a fall injury has been received.

The 8,400 recalled Realspace Soho Prestigio High-Back Leather Chairs were manufactured by True Innovations LLC, of Hong Kong, China; imported by Office Depot Inc., of Boca Raton, Florida; and sold exclusively at Office Depot retail stores, nationwide and online at OfficeDepot.com, from October 288 through February 2011. The defective Realspace chairs sold for about $250 each.

This recall involves Prestigio model leather office chairs. The high-back leather chairs were sold in black and have a five-leg metallic finish base with casters. The SKU number “181-265” and the words “Realspace Soho” and “Prestigio High-Back Chair Black Leather” can be found on a label located on the underside of the seat.

The firm is advising consumers to immediately stop using the recalled Realspace chairs and contact True Innovations for a free seat repair kit, including a replacement seat plate and an installation tool. True Innovations may be reached, toll-free, at 1.800.379.9773,  between 9:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., Eastern Time (ET), Monday through Friday, or at the firm’s website at www.trueinnovations.com.
