Salmonella Prompts La Placita Botanas Mexicanas to Recall Chili Products

La Placita Botanas Mexicanas, Inc. of South El Monte, California is recalling Wheat Snacks with Chili, Potato Chips with Chile, and Corn Churritos with Chili because they have the potential to be contaminated with<""> Salmonella, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just announced.

Salmonella is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy persons infected with Salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection with Salmonella can result in the organism getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis, and arthritis.

The following items were distributed primarily in Southern California through retail stores. These products are packaged in clear plastic bags with a label sticker containing the product name and UPC code. No production codes, best-by-date, or use-by-date are found on these products. Future products not affected by this recall will have production codes:

• Doraditas con Chile: UPC 7-90274 00011-9
